Celebrating Kanorau ā-roro:  Neurodivergence on Te Tai o Poutini, West Coast

This FREE full-day event was dedicated to celebrating and supporting kanorau ā-roro—neurodivergence - within our West Coast community. It was a day individuals, whānau, communities and agencies connected to support and uplift neurodivergent whānau in Te Tai o Poutini.

Some of the highlights:

  • Cam Calkoen (“That Awesome Guy”) was our amazing Keynote Speaker. Cam followed the presentation with an interactive workshop focusing on goal setting, resilience, storytelling and mentoring - “My Backpack of Belief.” Following the event Cam has created an online community - My Backpack of Belief circle (MBOB) where workshop attendees can continue the journey of inspiration, connection and growth beyond the event. Joining the circle will enable you to receive: Exclusive content, become part of a supportive community, have access to podcasts, workshops and tools to support personal and professional growth.

As a special thank you, all MBOB members will receive a free PDF copy of Cam’s book - “Luckily the Gun Sounds the Same.” If you’d like to connect - click this link.

  • The  Neurodiversity in Education Project  - brought two young neurodiversity champions to the Event. They spoke about their experiences, their work, helped set up a neuro-affirming quiet space and ran the “Welcome to my Brain" workshop.

  • Locals shared their lived experience of neurodiversity; what it’s meant for them, raised awareness of how others can be mindful of diversity and told us what’s made a difference for them

Hear from organisers Zee (has lived experience) and Jo who works with neurodivergent children and youth.
